I have previously mentioned that young people struggle with finding things to do, partly due to a lack of funding, but there is an organisation that can provide the solution to this problem.
All Chip In is an organisation that intends to make young people’s dreams a reality by using social media to raise funds. Sharlene Williams, co-founder of All Chip In, said: “Our mission is to help young people get over the financial barriers that hinder their dreams!”
Although All Chip In works in a similar way to the crowdfunding site, Kickstarter, it is quite unique, because it has been created specifically to meet the needs of young people. The organisation believes that “if people can come together to develop businesses, we must be able to do the same for the development of our young people”.
The way that it works is by young people filming a campaign idea, which they then share on various social media platforms and then wait for the funds to come flooding in through the All Chip In website.
All Chip In have labeled their scheme “Commitribution”, which is Community Contribution, and they say that every young person campaigning for a “Commitribution” will need to make an offer to partake in some form of community work. They believe that this platform “encourages increased social action and incentivises it where necessary.”
This is a way of putting young people in a positive light and improving the perception that others have of them, whilst using a constructive tool to increase their opportunities. All Chip In have said that they “want young people to stop being perceived as a problem and instead be given a real opportunity to better themselves and ultimately go on to build stronger and more valuable communities in the future.”
All Chip In is a positive movement that is directly addressing the needs of young people and it is inspiring to witness them bringing the community together for the development of their young people. It is especially relevant now when so many individuals are struggling with the lack of available jobs, ever-increasing prices and raising inflation.
