We’re going all the way through August!!
This is the first time since YPI launched as a physical platform that we are going all the way through August, with both The Kickback and Poetic Insight, and another event thrown in as well for good measure, since it’s summer after all. So, if you’re on holiday from school, college or uni, we’ve got some great things for you to do to pass the time.
Poetic Justice: Pay As You Feel
We’re starting off with a special collaboration with our friends, Screen25, an independent cinema local to South Norwood in Croydon. We’ll be showing Poetic Justice (Cert 15), as voted for by you in a poll against Brown Sugar and Save The Last Dance.
This cult classic stars the legends that are Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur, is directed by the legend that is John Singleton – who also brought you Boyz n the Hood – and features poetry by the legend that is Maya Angelou. All of this alone makes this film a must watch, therefore making this an unmissable event.
However, we’ve got more for you. There will be live poetry and spoken word from the amazing Chantae, Benny Bruce and Ashan, who have all graced the Poetic Insight stage. And the event is Pay As You Feel, so there is no set price. You just pay what you feel the event is worth.
So come down to Harris Academy South Norwood (2 Cumberlow Avenue, London, SE25 6AE) from 7.45pm on Wednesday 7th August for what is going to me an unmissable night of entertainment. Watch the trailer now to get a taste of the film, then get your tickets on the door or just click the link to get them now so you can’t talk yourself out of coming: bit.ly/2YLKa2q
It’s set to be a real big conversation at The Kickback this month, as we’ll be talking all about Social Expectations, as suggested by Vanessa. This could go in so many directions and cover a wide variety of points, so this is definitely a conversation you want to be part of.
Get the 20th August in your diary, with the time of 6.30-8.30pm and the location of Project B in your calendar, then set a reminder, so you don’t forget. Also, tell a friend to tell a friend to ensure the conversation is as rich as possible. You can register for free now at bit.ly/letstalk-socialexpectations
We’re seeing off August with Poetic Insight, which will be centred on the lovely theme of Family & Friends. This will be a lovely event to end on before our September break, so be sure to come out in your numbers to catch a beautiful vibe.
If you are feeling up to sharing on the night, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. However, if getting on stage isn’t your thing, then send us your poems and we’ll post them here on the blog.
You won’t want to miss out, so put the 27th August in your calendars, and of course, set a reminder. We’ll be at Urban Xchange Bar & Grill from 7-9pm, and if you need another reminder, you can get your free tickets here: bit.ly/poeticinsight-familyandfriends
As always, we want to have your voices represented on the blog throughout the month, so send us your poems, personal experiences or creative writing on any of the themes we’re focusing on this month. Email us at email@example.com with anything you would like to share.
Keep enjoying the summer and come along to one or all of our events this month – this will be your last chance to see us for a whole month, so hopefully that will convince you. Whether we see you or not though, you are loved and appreciated. Have a good August.
